A wrapper is "the portion of a file that serves as the container for the essence and associated metadata.[1]
General[]
The wrapper — the digital envelope — of a digital object is not encrypted. Anyone receiving a copy of a digital object will therefore be able to read the wrapper. What the wrapper contains is up to the owner of the object. The expected uses for the wrapper are to contain things like abstracts or summaries of the contents; the name and address of the owner of the contents; and the fees, if any, required by the owner to make that contents available.
