Website design is the process of creating presentations of content (usually hypertext or hypermedia) that is delivered to an end-user through the World Wide Web, by way of a Web browser or other Web-enabled software like Internet television clients, microblogging clients and RSS readers.
Overview
There are many disciplines and technologies of website design including graphic design, user interface design, page layout, typography, database/software integration and search engine optimization. Often, there are team members that collaborate on different aspects of the design and programming processes. Web design disciplines often interact between front-end or user experience to back-end programming or software integration.
Copywriters write the copy that will present the website ideas to the user. Marketing specialists help "steer the ship" using strategies to help maintain web presence through Internet promotional sales techniques. Graphic designers use design software like Photoshop and Illustrator to create the visual elements of the site. Web designers use programming languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, Flash and other languages to create functional web pages, transforming graphic design into web-ready pages and images. Web programmers often conform to standards set by the W3C organization to avoid syntax errors and compatibility issues with the many different browsers.
Websites are viewed using web or mobile browsers. Some websites are interactive and users can input information directly onto an online database, send email feedback or post comments using web forms. Web 2.0 websites such as Wordpress, Typepad or Blogger allow users to easily edit information and change the website's look at the click of a mouse.
There are many service providers that offer a variety of web design services for business or for personal use.
