Overview[]

The Virtual Magistrate project is an Internet-based arbitration service that assists in the rapid, initial resolution of computer network disputes. The project opened for business in March 1996. It offered a means for rapid, interim resolution of disputes involving (1) users of online systems, (2) those who claimed to be harmed by wrongful messages, postings, and files and (3) system operators.

Policy for the project was directed by the Cyberspace Law Institute. Cases submitted to the Virtual Magistrate were administered by the American Arbitration Association. The project was operated by the Villanova Center for Information Law and Policy (VCILP).
