Overview[]

This publication was issued by the NCSC as part of its program to promulgate technical computer security guidelines. The purposes of this document were:

  1. To provide a standard to manufacturers as to what security features and assurance levels to build into their new and planned, commercial network products in order to provide widely available systems that satisfy trust requirements for sensitive applications.
  1. To provide a metric by which to evaluate the degree of trust that can be placed in a given network system for processing sensitive information.
  1. To provide a basis for specifying security requirements in acquisition specifications.
