The U.S. Supreme Court recognized that "[a]nonymous pamphlets, leaflets, brochures and even books have played an important role in the progress of mankind,"[1] and held that the distribution of unsigned handbills urging a boycott of certain merchants, who were allegedly involved in discriminatory practices, fell within the ambit of the protections afforded by the First Amendment.
