Australian Government, Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Strategic Framework for the Information Economy 2004-2006: Opportunities and Challenges for the Information Age (July 13, 2004) (full-text).

Overview[]

Australia's Strategic Framework sets out a vision for the Australian information economy for 2004 to 2006, objectives, strategic priorities and supporting strategies for the information economy. Australia's vision for the information economy is where government, business and society are all connected and can participate with confidence, are open to innovation and can collaborate to maximize the economic and social benefits.

Australia defines an "information economy" as one where information, knowledge, and education are major inputs to business and social activity. It is not a separate "new" economy — it is an economy in which the rapid development and diffusion of ICT-based innovation is transforming all sectors and all aspects of society.
