Definition[]

Smart dust (also digital dust) is a term that some have used to express a vision of tiny, wireless sensors; more recently, others use the term to describe any of several technologies that range from the size of a pack of gum to a pack of cigarettes, and that are widely available to system developers.

Overview[]

One may think of the vision of tiny instances of smart dust as a development that will arise after a long period of IoT evolution, during which a number of disruptions are foreseeable well before usable wireless sensors shrink to the size of gravel.
