The U.S. Secretary of State is the official responsible for foreign policy and is head of the U.S. Department of State.
The Secretary of State has the responsibility to coordinate activities with foreign governments and international organizations related to the prevention, preparation, response, and recovery from a domestic terrorist incident, and for the protection of U.S. citizens and U.S. interests overseas. The Department of State also adjudicates and screens visa applications abroad.
