The Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a

[a] set of World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) specifications involving a model for using metadata to provide a description of data. RDF is one of the specifications included in the W3C's conception of the Semantic Web.[1]
a framework for describing metadata on a website. RDF uses 'subject-predicate-object' triples to describe objects, their attributes, and their relationships. It provides interoperability between applications that exchange machine-understandable information on the web.[2]
