CIO Council, Privacy Best Practices for Social Media (July 2013) (full-text).

Overview[]

This guide was prepared to assist U.S. federal agencies in leveraging social media websites to engage customers, understand and address issues raised by the public, and advance operational missions. It addresses ways the Federal Government can use social media for information sharing, situational awareness, and to support agency operations. It covers many privacy best practices for establishing a social media program, from pulling together an intra-agency team of experts, to establishing internal social media policies and ensuring transparency through the use of published privacy notices and documentation.
