Official information is any information developed, received or collected by or on behalf of the Government. As a valuable official resource, official information must be:
- handled carefully, according to authorised procedures
- made available only to people who have a legitimate "need to know" to
fulfil their official duties
- released only in accordance with the policies, legislative requirements and directives of the Government and the courts.
