Overview[]

The DHS Officer for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL) assists the Department of Homeland Security by:

  1. Helping the Department shape policy in ways that are mindful of civil rights and civil liberties by providing proactive advice, evaluation and reviewing a wide range of technical, legal and policy issues;
  2. Investigating and resolving complaints filed by the public regarding departmental policies or actions taken by departmental personnel;
  3. Providing leadership to the Department's equal employment opportunity programs; and
  4. Engaging with the public regarding these issues.[1]
