Overview[]

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) for British Colombia was established in 1993. It is independent from government and monitors and enforces British Columbia's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP Act) and Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

The OIPC investigates complaints that public bodies have failed to comply with the FOIPP Act's privacy protection provisions. The Commissioner is also responsible for overseeing compliance by private sector organizations with the PIPA.
