Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology, Next Generation Telecoms Networks (POST PN 296) (Dec. 1, 2007) (full-text).

Overview[]

Traditional telecommunications (telecoms) networks were developed to carry a single type of service, such as voice calls. In contrast, Next Generation Networks (NGNs) carry all types of services, including voice, video and e-mail, on a common platform.

This post discusses the benefits of NGNs as well as the challenges in maintaining the quality, reliability and security of communications.
