Overview[]
the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division (NSD) was created by the reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 in March 2006. The Division merged the primary national security elements of DoJ and coordinates efforts between the U.S. intelligence community and prosecutors and law enforcement agencies. The Division consists of the Counterterrorism Section; the Counterespionage Section; the Office of Intelligence Policy and Review; and a Law & Policy Office.
The NSD:
- Participated in Cyber Storm III, a large-scale cybersecurity exercise with international partners to improve incident response and coordination capabilities.
- Consulted on a white paper regarding the Global Internet Freedom Initiative.
- Participates in UN Counterterrorism Implementation Task Force workshops on legal and technical aspects of countering terrorist use of the Internet.
- Participates in the International Sub-IPC.
