Overview[]

The National Intelligence Priorities Framework (NIPF) is the Director of National Intelligence's guidance to the IC on the national intelligence priorities approved by the President. The NIPF is the DNI's sole mechanism for establishing national intelligence priorities.

The NIPF consists of:

The NIPF is updated semi-annually in coordination with IC elements, the National Intelligence Council, and other internal components of the ODNI. Ad hoc adjustments may also be made to reflect changes in world events and policy priorities.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence and IC elements use the NIPF to guide allocation of collection and analytic resources. In addition, IC elements associate intelligence collection requirements and analytic production with NIPF priorities and report to the DNI on their coverage of NIPF priorities.
