Overview[]
The National Computer Systems Laboratory (NCSL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) performed computer and related telecommunications research, develops standards and guidelines for computer systems, and provided technical assistance and advisory services to U.S. government agencies. These activities supported requirements for interoperable hardware, software and communications systems, for the exchange of information between systems, and for the protection of information from threats of all kinds.
