Definition
A mirror site is an exact copy of a website that resides on a different server, uses a separate communications line and has a separate Internet address. It is used to provide redundancy and to provide faster access to popular websites.
Overview
Mirror sites divert some of the traffic from the original site. It's not unusual to find a dozen or more mirrors of busy ftp sites.
