Overview[]
In 2005, the Military Intelligence Program (MIP) was formed from combining the Joint Military Intelligence Program and the Tactical Intelligence and Related Activities program. It consists of programs, projects, or activities that support the Secretary of Defense's intelligence, counterintelligence, and related intelligence responsibilities. This includes those intelligence and counterintelligence programs, projects, or activities that provide capabilities to meet warfighters' operational and tactical requirements more effectively. The term excludes capabilities associated with a weapons system whose primary mission is not intelligence.
The MIP funds the specific intelligence needs of the Department of Defense and tactical forces. The MIP is controlled by the Secretary of Defense, and the DNI participates in the development of the MIP.
