Definition[]

LTO (an acronym for Linear Tape Open) is

a commonly used magnetic tape data storage technology that is an open standard. It was created by a consortium of manufacturers of hardware, software, and media. Each generation of LTO drive can read back two generations and write back one generation in order to extend access to information beyond the life cycle of one generation.[1]
