Definition[]
Using the principles of the Internet, organizations can create an internal website to share information with employees and allow them to process work.
Overview[]
Internal websites are less expensive to implement than a private network, which is based on proprietary protocols, and are easily accessible by employees.
Similar to public websites, connecting to internal websites and taking advantage of their benefits also present security risks. These risks include the unauthorized alteration of website content, disruption of employee access to the websites and computer operations, and unauthorized access to web server data as well as data on the network to which the web servers are connected.
Internal websites are generally protected from outsiders by an organization’s firewall.
