Overview[]
The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference is the top policy-making body and supreme organ of the International Telecommunication Union. It is a meeting of ITU Member States and is held every four years. Plenipotentiary conferences adopt the underlying policies of the organization, determine its structures and activities, establish the financial plan for the organization and revise the Constitution and Convention when needed. It sets the ITU's general policies, adopts four-year strategic and financial plans, and elects the senior management team of the organization, the members of Council and the members of the Radio Regulations Board. It is the key event at which ITU Member States decide on the future role of the organization, and determine the ITU's position on issues such as convergence, telephone tariffs, the Internet, universal service and electronic commerce.
The 2014 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference will be held in Busan, Republic of Korea from October 20-November 7, 2014.
