Overview[]
The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) is a leading consensus building organization that nurtures, develops and advances global technologies. Its standards drive the functionality, capabilities and interoperability of a wide range of products and services that transform the way people live, work and communicate. These standards cover transmission media such as optical fiber, coaxial cable, copper twisted pair, power lines, wireless, cellular, and satellite.
For example, IEEE standards include the 802.11 standard, an internationally-recognized standard that addresses encryption and wireless networking.
The IEEE-SA also has been involved with the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to draft cybersecurity standards for electric utility control systems.
