HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is

the industry standard encryption protocol. The protocol is supported by every current web browser.
a "secure method of sending and receiving data. A web server encrypts and decrypts user page requests as well as the pages that are returned by the web server."[1]
