Geospatial information technology (GIT) is

[a] broad term encompassing all forms of technology to gather, display, sample, and process geographic or geospatial information, including in particular GIS, remote sensing, and use of the Global Positioning System.[1]

Geospatial information technology includes "sensors, systems, and software that collect, manage, manipulate, analyze, model, and display information about locations on the earth’s surface."[2]
