A false match rate (FMR) is the

[p]roportion of the completed biometric non-match comparison trials that result in a false match.[1]

Overview[]

"[T]he FMR is the probability of the incorrect matches. Incorrect matches in a positive identification system mean that unauthorized people could gain access to resources or places to which they are not allowed."[2]
