Overview[]
The European Interoperability Framework for European Public Services (EIF) is a set of recommendations which specify how governments, businesses and citizens communicate with each other within the EU and across Member States borders. The purpose of the EIF is:
- to promote and support the delivery of European Public Services by fostering cross-border and cross-sectoral interoperability;
- to guide public administrations' efforts in providing European Public Services to businesses and citizens;
- to complement and tie together the various National Interoperability Frameworks (NIFs) in a European dimension.
The EIF Ver. 1.0 was issued under the Interoperable Delivery of European eGovernment Services to Public Administrations, Businesses and Citizens program (IDABC). EIF Ver. 2.0 continues under the new ISA program, which replaced the IDABC program on December 31, 2009.
EIF in effect is an enterprise architecture framework targeted at the largest possible scale, designed to promote integration spanning multiple nations, specifically EU Member States.
This Framework has been superseded by European Interoperability Framework.
