Electronic Commerce (EC) Through Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) was an initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense in the early 1990s to move the processing of all business-related transactions from the traditional EDI technologies into complete electronic commerce, "end-to-end paperless commerce."
