Overview[]
This study was not intended to provide a comprehensive account of all legal issues relevant to electronic commerce. It focused only on issues directly affecting international trade. It was prepared with the aim of creating awareness and assisting developing countries in their efforts to accommodate electronic trading. It provides an account of recent international developments aimed at facilitating electronic commerce, and reviews legal issues which are considered to constitute impediments to the use of electronic means of communication in international trade, with an analysis of the solutions provided in the UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Commerce and other existing legal texts. In addition, it includes a number of suggestions and proposals for consideration by Governments and commercial parties.
