Overview[]
The Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) Project is responsible for providing scientific and other users access to data from NASA's Earth Science Enterprise. The ESDIS Project provides this access through the development and operation of the Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). For the Earth Observing System (EOS), EOSDIS will capture and process telemetry data, generate higher level standard data products, and perform mission operations for instrument and spacecraft control. Data products from EOS and other NASA Earth science missions will be stored at several Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) to support interactive and interoperable retrieval and distribution of data products.
The ESDIS Project also provides project management, systems engineering, and technical direction for the design, development, integration, test and operation of the overall system; coordinates development of scientific discipline-unique functions at the DAACs; and manages and directs prototyping and application of technology to evolve the capabilities of EOSDIS to support changing user requirements.
