World Trade Organization, Declaration on Global Electronic Commerce (Mar. 20, 1998) (full-text).
Overview[]
The Declaration was adopted by the WTO at the WTO Ministerial Conference in May 1998. It requested that the General Council establish a work program "to examine all trade-related issues relating to global electronic commerce, taking into account the economic, financial, and development needs of developing countries" and to report to the Third Ministerial Conference in 1999. It also declared the continuation of the member states’ current practice of not imposing custom duties on electronic transmissions.
