The Cyber Atlantic 2011 was The first joint cyber security exercise between the EU and the United States. It took place on November 3, 2011. It used simulated cyber-crisis scenarios to explore how the EU and the United States would engage each other and cooperate in the event of cyberattacks on their critical information infrastructures.
The specific exercise objectives were:
- Explore and improve the way in which EU Member States would engage the U.S. during cyber crisis management activities, notably using operating procedures for cooperation during cyber-crises;
- Explore and identify issues in order to improve the way in which the U.S. would engage the EU Member States during their cyber crisis management activities, using the appropriate U.S. procedures;
- Exchange good practices on the respective approaches to international cooperation in the event of cyber crises, as a first step towards effective collaboration.
