The FBI's Computer Intrusion Squad investigates cyberattacks, primarily unauthorized access (intrusion) and denial of service, directed at the major components of the U.S. critical information, military and economic infrastructures.
Critical infrastructures include such components as the nation's power grids and power-supply systems, transportation control systems, money transfer and accounting systems, defense-related systems and telecommunications networks.
Additionally, the Squad investigates cyberattacks directed at private industry and public institutions that maintain information vital to national security and/or the economic success of the nation.
