Overview[]
This instruction states that the Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Defense have directed that the processes described in NIST Special Publication 800-53, revision 3 (as amended by the instruction), and the NIST security and programmatic controls contained in NIST Special Publication 800-53 apply to national security systems. Using the controls in NIST Special Publication 800-53, this instruction provides categorization and corresponding baseline sets of controls for national security systems.
