Definition[]

Cartesian coordinates (also called rectangular coordinates) refers to

the use of two- or three-dimensional coordinates representing the location of a point in relation to an x, y, z set of axes that are at right angles to one another. . . . This representation is based on René Descartes’ conception of geometry and is the basis of the familiar x, y graphs used for print displays of data points.[1]
