Definitions[]

Basic intelligence is

[f]undamental intelligence concerning the general situation, resources, capabilities, and vulnerabilities of foreign countries or areas which may be used as reference material in the planning of operations at any level and in evaluating subsequent information relating to the same subject.[1]
[i]ntelligence, on any subject, which may be used as reference material for planning and as a basis for processing subsequent information or intelligence.[2]
the compilation of all available data and information on several subjects of broad interest to policymakers and other members of the Intelligence Community; fundamental, comprehensive, encyclopedic and general reference-type material relating to political, economic, geographic and military structure, resources, capabilities, and vulnerabilities of foreign nations.[3]
