Alpha testing is
- the initial testing of a computer program or system under actual usage conditions; it can be done in-house by the vendor, or outside by a customer or third party tester.
- "acceptance testing performed by the customer in a controlled environment at the developer's site. The software is used by the customer in a setting approximating the target environment with the developer observing and recording errors and usage problems."[1]
