An Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) is
“ | [a] system of interrelated computer-based components linked to a switched or wireless telecommunications network that provides a framework for services, e.g., call forwarding, credit card authentication, personal identification numbers, speed dialing, voice-dialing, etc.[1] | ” |
AIN functions reside in network elements, which can communicate among themselves and with a controlling switch. In some cases, subscribers can access and control the databases for AIN services without the intervention of a service provider.
AIN architecture consists of signaling systems, switches, computer processors, databases, and transmission media, which provides customized software-controlled services.
