Aviation and Transportation Security Act of 2001 (ATSA), Pub. L. No. 107-71 (Nov. 19, 2001).

Overview[]

The Act was passed by Congress in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The Act created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) within the U.S. Department of Transportation.[1]

  1. However, with the passage of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the TSA was transferred to the Department of Homeland Security.
