Definition[]

.mil (military) is the sponsored top-level domain for the United States Department of Defense and its subsidiary organizations.

Overview[]

.mil was one of the original six generic top-level domains (gTLDs) created by Internet RFC 920 in October 2004. The other generic top-level domains established at the same time were .org, .edu, .gov, .com, and temporary domain .arpa.

The United States is the only country that has a top-level domain for its military.
